Holds "Welcome Event for a Ghanaian Student Invited through NACF Global Korea Scholarship Program”
On March 6th, the NACF held a welcome event at its headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul for Issifu Mubarack (22 years old), a student from Ghana who is a recipient of the "2023 NACF Global Korea Scholarship Program.”
The invited student was recommended by the Ghana Cooperative Council (GCC) and will study Korean for a year at the Yonsei Korean Language Institute (KLI) before taking specialized courses in agriculture and cooperatives at Agricultural Cooperative University (ACU) for three years.
Since 2015, the NACF has invited outstanding students from developing countries such as Vietnam, Kenya, Nepal, and Uganda to cultivate talents specialized in cooperatives based on the spirit of "Cooperation among Cooperatives" and contributed to achieving “Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)” by sharing Korea's excellent agricultural technology and NACF’s development experience.
In particular, the NACF Chairman promised to select scholarship recipients from countries that ICAO members are representing as part of his election pledges as ICAO President. Despite difficulties in obtaining a visa for the student, the Chairman of the NACF made efforts to resolve the issue, requesting cooperation from embassies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and was able to hold this meaningful welcome ceremony.
At the welcome ceremony, Chairman Sung-hee Lee shared the development experiences of Korean agricultural cooperatives and agriculture, and presented a laptop to the student with the wishes for him to succeed in achieving his goals.
Chairman Sung-hee Lee also voiced his hope that the student would become a leader in the global cooperative societies by studying Korea’s advanced practices such as digital agriculture, in order to adapt to the rapidly changing international agricultural environment. Furthermore, he encouraged the student to leverage his experience studying in Korea to serve as a private diplomat and facilitate exchanges between the NACF & ICAO, Ghanaian agricultural cooperatives.
