  • Conference on Family Farming: A model that ensures our food security and a sustainable rural development for our future?
  • In 2011 the General Assembly of the United Nations declared 2014 as the International Year of Family Farming (IYFF) and invited FAO to facilitate its implementation in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. Principal aim of the year is to highlight the importance of family farms for global food security. This topic is relevant for Swiss policies at both national and international level. This conference provides representatives from Parliament, government, academia and civil society the opportunity to share views on family farming. Overall objectives ● Identify the role and responsibilities of family farming with respect to food security and sustainable rural development. ● Recommendations for improving the policy environment and strategies in support of family farming at the national and international level. The recommendations will be included in a declaration

  • Special session on "family farming and sustainable development: 2014 and beyond" at the Associacao Portuguesa para o Desenvolvimento Regional (APDR) 20th Congress
  • The 2014 International Year of Family Farming (IYFF) established by FAO and the ongoing 20th anniversary of the International Year of the Family offer an opportunity to direct world attention on the role of the family in the national agendas. Having these two international observances under the auspices of the United Nations as a backdrop, this special session addresses to discuss the role of family farming and small holders in 2014 and beyond. By the end, it hopes to refocus on the importance of family farming for sustainable development and contribute to a wide, plural and current discussion on this issue.
